Q: Summer Reading. What was your favorite book that you were REQUIRED to read when you were in school? When I was at school, the word required and fun did not go together. It didn't help that books that I was required to read weren't my prefered genre or particulary interesting. I know this is making me sound really bad but, to be honest, there weren't that many specific books we had to study. In secondary school (11-16), I can count 4 books and 2 plays we 'had' to study. So out of that small amount I would have to say my favourite was Stone Cold by Robert Swindells. Even that only got three stars.

I think I was the only one in my class who actually enjoyed some of the required reading in school. Stone Cold looks a little creepy.

I haven't read this one - but I know what you mean, schools tend to ruin a lot of books with over analysis, I think!

That's the problem with required reading. I think that most of the time it does more damage than good things :/

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and following my blog! I follow you now too...but Blogger is acting wonky for some reason! The past 3-4 blogs I've started following, it doesn't show my picture or name or anything. No clue why it's doing that!
Haven't heard of that one! But I know what you mean, it's hard to enjoy a book when you are made to read it. Old follower :)

It's bad enough being forced to read a book you dislike but then having to analyse and write essays on it makes it even worse.
